Hill, Holliday, Connors, Cosmopulos Inc. • Boston • March 1997–May 2004

Oversaw all marketing communications writing for John Hancock Financial Services, the agency’s largest client. Raised editorial standards by creating and implementing a comprehensive, client-specific style guide for writers. Streamlined the writing process, enabling the copy group to operate more cost-effectively while enhancing productivity. Overhauled the design of the client’s literature system, in collaboration with the director of Design, to a look that was fresher, more cohesive, and more flexible. Created a corporate identity and developed a literature system for a newly launched subsidiary. Directed hundreds of communications projects annually for more than 10 lines of business across a broad range of media. Regularly teamed with directors of Design and Account Service to plan initiatives and develop communications strategies. Hired, supervised, and developed a small staff of copywriters: assigned projects, reviewed concepts, edited copy, monitored presentations, and cultivated creative skills. Devised concepts and wrote copy for brochures, ads, presentations, interactive CDs, posters, invitations, websites, and other marketing materials. Produced and directed creative for The Salvation Army, The American Ireland Fund, Fleet Bank, Boston Marathon, Massachusetts Sports Partnership, the Boston Red Sox, Employers Against Domestic Violence, Boston Cares, Quick & Reilly, Boston College, the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum, and other clients of the agency.

 

Financial Writer
Putnam Investments • Boston • June 1994–March 1997

Produced new mutual fund launch packages, seminar materials, video scripts, white papers, brochures, consumer letters, and website copy. Wrote shareholder reports for mutual funds across a range of asset classes: fixed income and equity, domestic and international, taxable and nontaxable. Interviewed portfolio managers for annual reports and other analytical pieces that addressed fund investment strategy and performance, economic outlook, and marketing story. Drafted proposals to defined contribution plan prospects detailing the company’s services and investment management philosophies and strategies.
